Intro to Marching Drums: Basic Rudiments and Cadences
If you’ve always wanted to add the excitement of drum cadences to marches or rallies, but weren’t sure how to begin, this workshop is for you!
Cadences provide a rhythm for a group in motion and can be simple or distinctive. You will learn the basic rudiments of stick drumming and combine them into three cadences, or street beats, that are perfect for keeping a marching pace. One is even customizable for the group you are marching with! If you made a marching bucket drum this spring and want to use it to provide rhythmic inspiration for your next gathering, this workshop is for you!
Note: Instruments and all other materials will be provided for use during the workshop. What you march with afterwards is up to you!

Drum Kit for Absolute Beginners
A no-pressure, no-experience-necessary introduction to the drum kit. With experience across a range of musical genres, Niki brings a playful, down-to-earth approach to rhythm—celebrating creativity and confidence over perfection.
A lifelong fan of drumming and community music-making, Niki loves helping others discover their inner drummer. Her workshops at the Women’s Drum Center create a welcoming, judgment-free space where beginners—especially women—can explore the drum set, find their groove, and experience the vitality and connection that drumming brings. Drums provided.
Niki is offering two identical sessions on the same day. Register for the one that fits your schedule. Class size limit: 12 - no walk ins.

AGet ready to cut loose and make some noise with Jo Klein at this high-energy Drum Circle experience! We’ll turn everyday buckets into powerful instruments as we build fun, easy, exhilarating grooves together—street-style! No experience needed—just bring your energy and sense of fun. We’ll provide the buckets and the beats. You bring the spirit! The vibe will be relaxed, playful, and full of rhythm you can feel from head to toe.

An exciting new 4-part drum series at the WDC! Are you eager to learn how to drum, but don't know where to start? Then this is for YOU! Class members will explore hand drumming with easy, energizing exercises to build skills. This is your opportunity to explore an enriching musical experience. The focus will be on having fun!
