Try out some FREE classes during a special three-day test-drive event on April 27, 28, and 29. Anyone 16 years and older is invited to attend new-to-you classes to see if it's something you'd like to explore further. All classes are held at the Women’s Drum Center. Feel free to try all three! West African Level I - All-Gender

Led by Dan Engebretson, this class is for those with some hand drumming experience. You will explore the polyrhythmic patterns of West Africa, learning accompaniment rhythms, breaks, and exciting arrangements for traditional and modern West African rhythms in this ongoing class. Dan also provides the meaning and cultural history behind the songs he teaches. This is a great opportunity to try your hand at the powerful and vibrant world of West African drumming!

Drum Basics - Women Only

Led by Jo Klein. Enjoy a relaxing and fun start to your week! In addition to covering different rhythms and songs each week, this ongoing class offers the opportunity to learn freestyle drumming on various percussion instruments in a low-pressure setting. No experience necessary! Both hand drumming and stick drumming will be explored. It’s easy and fun!

Bettie Seitzer

Hand Drum for Beginners - Women Only

Led by Bettie Seitzer. Even if you’ve never played an instrument, you’ll feel very comfortable in this class. This class focuses on West African drums and songs, starting with djembes and progressing to the larger dundun drums. The group is welcoming and nurturing, and this ongoing class welcomes newcomers at any time. It’s a great place to start your drumming journey!
